The production of reality induced by the media and new technologies accelerates the transformation of the world from a tangible entity to a variation of intangible narrative. Our technologically transformed existence is creating a cognitive dissonance that is spreading far more quickly throughout humanity. Constantly constructed realities confront and entangle each other in a loop of subversion and reconstruction. In an accelerated world, everyone is in an intensified struggle of shift between associate and disassociate. We are spectators of the fiction of our own existence. The individual, as part of the world, is at the heart of this process, but often finds himself unwittingly on the sidelines.
JINGDI 淨諦 (Jingyu Cao 曹靖愉) is a Chinese artist based between Paris, Avignon, and Yunnan. Her work probes the fictionality of reality, unfolding across space and time in an era marked by the accelerated proliferation and collapse of reality-systems. Her practice interrogates interdependent causality, examining the collective unconscious as conditioned by the organic entanglements of media and technology. These entanglements—material and immaterial—form the core of her inquiry. Through artificial intelligence and interactive systems, JINGDI creates hybrid works in which concealed existences become perceptible, combining photography, generative imagery, video, 3D moving-image, sound, and text.
She holds degrees from Université Paris VIII and ENSP Arles, following prior studies in art and media in China. Her work has been presented internationally, including at Rencontres d’Arles (France), the Arte Laguna Prize (Italy), the Shanghai International Photography Festival (China), f2 Fotofestival (Germany), Centre Wallonie-Bruxelles (France), Vitrine – Cité internationale des arts (France), PhotoSaintGermain (France), and the Festival OFF d’Arles (France).
In parallel with her artistic practice, she actively contributes to lectures and workshops, notably at Rencontres d’Arles as an artist-researcher (Anthropocene workshop; What Images for What Ecology? symposium). A recipient of the Artificial Intelligence Research-Creation Scholarship supported by ENSP Arles and the Fondation de France, she has also developed workshops at EnsAD Orléans and ENSP Arles.
